    Hi Kim,
I really enjoyed watching your Video, it spoke to me in different awesome ways. I listened to this video first thing this morning and i am so glad I did. Thank you for sharing positivity and showing us that it is important to be yourself when running a business. I am definitely going back to my business model and make sure I have a clearer focus this month of August. God Bless.

    Hi Kim, Hi Ian,
You both seem to be talking about the same thing:
Focusing on THE POWER OF ONE and
Eliminating unnecessary clutter from our lives.
And if I could add one:  Make something happen – get yourself arrested if necessary.
We use to say this from the old Real Estate Days.
Thank you for the concepts.  This should help me move forward.  It also alerts me to moving ahead enough to make stuff happen.  And why do so many ambitious people come from other places outside the United States?

Hey Kim, I just got the time to watch your video and I have to say it was really good!
Thanks for the free valuable content. I’m glad to see I am now actually DOING the stuff you talk about in this video, I’m taking massive action towards building my list and I’m already starting to see some good results. I also try to provide value to my list on a regular basis like you teach.

You’re right, I feel like I had all the knowledge in my head already.. was just too paralyzed and fearful to take action.. and doing some of the things I’m doing now was out of my comfort zone. But now that I made it a MUST to succeed I expanded my comfort zone, started getting massive action and already have 1650 people on my list after 1 month. And best of all I know things will only get better as I continue working hard and smart.

    Thanks again,
and I wish you all the best :)
    keep it rocking!

    Hi Kim,

Thanks for your video, which I have listened twice already. It is very inspiring for a fresh/raw beginner like me.

I just have a question for you. As I have just started building my list by buying solo ads (via Safe-Swaps), I just found out that GetResponse has a program on solo ads through their email system. Is it good to buy from GetResponse as well? Are the subscribers list of good, responsive quality?

Are there any other parties that you could suggest that I can focus on solo ads? What about Adf.ly…? Look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you.

Wow, this video is timely. Don’t go off into the weeds creating multiple properties is a sound philosophy. You will wind up getting nothing done – or be less then enthusiastic about products or services that do not ignite a passionate spark in your life. Penguin has all but thrown one of my websites out on an iceberg, never to know when it will see dry land again.

I have finally realized that I will have to put more emphasis on building a list and “owning” more of my customers instead of randomly relying on Google’s free optimized traffic drugs. Something a certain woman named Kim has been preaching for a long time, but who’s advice had fell on deaf ears – lol.

So now, I have my “site” set on building a web property that will fill in a niche within my industry. I want to start a membership site of sorts, but with an emphasis on a Woot.com – Groupon.com – style platform.

For example purposes, and because I don’t want to reveal “said niche” here in an open forum, I will refer to my product as the generic go to example, blue widgets. For the record, I do not love all blue widgets, but I intensely “like” finding blue widget deals for customers.

The industry, at least how I see it, is basically fractured. Providing a central clearing house of blue widgets can (at least in my mind) offer a tremendous benefit for people who are looking for wholesale/resale bargains of blue widgets.

With all that being said, your video has prompted me to ask you a series of questions since one of your favorite modes of making money is membership sites. Let me apologize in advance, because my questions, like the many niches within the blue widget category, are many – lol. In addition, I know that you might have multiple thoughts on how to approach this – but your best ball park answers will do just fine.

    1) If you were going to offer various wholesale or surplus deals on said widgets, would you set up a site to offer deals like Groupon – or Woot.com (finding a Groupon or Woot script is not hard to find, I have a few in mind)  or just a plain forum type of site, like Vbulletin?

    2) Should I charge customers to sign up for the deals or let them sign up for free? If they can join for free – what type of commission should I charge the sellers? Most of the deals will be wholesale, surplus, and closeout lots – which will be in the 200 to 2000 dollar range. I was thinking for deals 200 to 1000 dollars, a 6% commission. For deals over 1000 dollars – a 2% commission.

    3) I know that the best way is to go right to the source and ask, but do you have any ideas about how to approach companies – who do not sell on the web – to sign up as an affiliate vendor? If they are interested, should I get them to sign up at like Shareasale, or Commission Junction?

Or, could I start my own affiliate program? How would I do that, and what type of affiliate tracking software could I use that tracks affiliates that would pay me? In other words, there is plenty of affiliate tracking software that you can use to keep track of what you pay your affiliates like iDevAffiliate. But, I am wondering can I use this type of software to do the reverse. To track people who would owe me money – and not the other way around.

    4) Marketing. I already have a small list of people that are interested in blue widgets, but I want to build a much bigger list, and expand the customer base.

Since I already know who to market to – I was wondering how you would cast a wider net? What would be just one, or two ways you would get traffic to the blue widget site to get people to sign up for the new whiz bang deals I will have to offer? I know you probably have more then several thoughts on this….

    Here endeth the inquiry..

Again, I am sorry, about the length of this post and the varied questionnaire..
Thanks for any or all answers..

    Warmest Regards..
    Robert….

I can’t tell you the number of times i go back and read your blog posts especially the 2012 marketing rolodex. This is another great video from you. I also decided to focus more on female mentors since I relate more and get those little questions answered without having to ask. Don’t get me wrong, I have learned a lot from male mentors also. I do try to focus on one thing at a time but I don’t always succeed. I am getting better and this video has strengthened my resolve to excel in this area.

Dear Kim…thank you. You sound like a “down to earth, caring person”.
listening to this presentation, esp the “power of one”  portion with the mention of the 6 traffics cources inspired me to make a suggestion : make a brief overview of them ie. what they are, a bit about how they work and the pros and cons of working with each one.

This could be done as separate items or all 6 in one.

These 6 could be sold individually (or given away if you wish)  , but if sold ,each could end with an offer to join your new membership…your “Marketing Lab”

The need or appeal for this ? during your pres. at “Guest Blogging” section you said “for a month get on a guest blogging …? list or lift  or whatever it was,I listened several times and could not understand…showing my lack of understanding of the subject. If I were more knowledgable I would have been able to fill in the gap.

I do believe a sale approach used as a “hook” should be at a very low pricepoint to serve as an easy.impulse enabling bait for your hook.

Again, thank you for the material you share.

As a new marketer that has had some early success, I have found myself bogged down with so many ideas and so many projects that nothing is really getting done so your ‘Power of One’ approach has really given me a kick in the ass!

It is also true about stepping outside your comfort zone. If I had stayed ‘comfortable’ I would have never had the early success that I’ve had.

Can I ask you Kim, how many times does it take you to get your videos right?

I’m trying to step out side my comfort zone right now and make some instructional videos but I just can’t seem to get them right – it’s driving me around the bend!

    Hi Kim,

I thought your video absolutely rocked, and was so full of good simple guidance.  You know Kim, much of that stuff should be common sense.  So why isn’t it?  Why do we need to be told this stuff.  But we do.

It’s so easy for us beginnners in the IM world to let common sense disappear out the window, while we allow ourselves to get distracted by pretty much everything and anything that comes our way.

Time to stop, and as Ian said, declutter and have a re-think.  Then set sail on a better course, armed with a better guidance system.

I only live up the road from Ian. I’m gonna see if I can have a chat with him.

Many principles of success are counter-intuitive.

For example, giving away almost all of your very best content (it’s counter-intuitive).

Giving to others and building relationships without expecting anything in return (it’s counter-intuitive).

Getting outside our comfort zone (it’s counter-intuitive).

Positioning ourselves as a leader within our niche (definitely counter-intuitive to our nature ;)

    3. A Payment Processor (something like PayPal, Authorize.net, or Clickbank)
    4. And of course some content :) (But keep in mind you don’t need a ton of content to get
started. Start with a few golden nuggets and you can drip in additional content from there.

Hey Kim, great video and thanks for the mention in your email… I had to read it twice because I was so surprised and honored :)

Like you say, membership sites ROCK. I loved looking at all those Clickbank payment emails every day when I owned the model train membership site… It totally set me up for the day :)

What I find is most people suffer with too much clutter in their lives. When I coached the model train affiliates the first thing we did is removed all the clutter from their lives… on their desk, in their inbox, on their computer desktops, in their “courses to complete one-day” folder, noise clutter, etc.

Then I would get them to choose one traffic source which would be sent to one landing page, with one offer. Every step of the way was measured daily in a spreadsheet and the conversions calculated and tweaks made if necessary. Sometimes I would even build the landing pages for the affiliates on our server and install their analytics. They loved me for this and some of them (that put the effort in) made a lot of money.

Over 4,000 members went through that membership site so it was very profitable for the affiliates and me… However without that one-on-one work (with the affiliates) it would never have got to where it was before I sold it. I only focused on that one traffic source, which I learned from Kim’s Traffic Dashboard…

    Thanks again Kim.

    Cheers

Hi Kim….that video was, in a word, wonderful! I purchased your “Traffic Dashbord” many months ago but did not look at it until very recently and was thoroughly impressed with it. I was very upset with myself for not checking it out sooner. You are a great teacher; I learned so much from that traffic course. If I had looked at it sooner, I would not have purchased all those other traffic programs. Keep up the good work. By the way, how can I join your membership site?….Thanks….LOL!!

I’ve wanted to start a membership site for a while now, but what’s the right way to structure your core content (e.g. Modules 0 – 6 for example) and be able to define each one independently?

I don’t know. I think most people are pretty tired of the hype and ready for something different.

One of the best ways you can succeed online today is to simply be yourself. Be Real. Let your personality drip through every article, video, and email.

People are attracted to the person behind the business. Think Oprah, Gary Vaynerchuk, Howard Stern. Love ‘em or hate ‘em – the real secret sauce is personality marketing. Think about your own favorite marketers. I’m guessing they’re probably people who are passionate, excited, and probably a bit over the edge ;)

    Hi Kim,

I always like listening to your straight forward, no hype content.

One of the things you forgot to mention is that most membership sites have short term followings, so lifetime memberships could be one way of keeping people coming to the site and commenting in the forum. I’ll be honest with you, I was disappointed with your forum, at least when you first started Super Affiliate Club. You did a good job participating in the forum by answering questions members had, but there was very little interaction between the members.

This is one of the challenges I have as a moderator for Matt Wolf’s Word Press Classroom. I have found that mentoring folks along instead of just giving them answers helps the members build confidence in what they are doing and they in turn begin to help others.

I have always loved of your content, webinars and presentation. I obviously still follow you and you have done an exceptional job with this video.

I would love to write in my blog (makingmoneyontheinter.net) and link to this video. Let me know if it is Okay with you.

For all the people reading my comment, make sure you watch Kim’s video above from beginning until end and take notes. She understands the business like the back of her hand. :)

Sometimes we have the wrong conception about business. We think that business is about making profit for ourselves. Getting people to look at our product. To promote us to their list. It’s all about me, me, me, me, me…

But as Kim mentioned, that’s not the way it should be. In truth, the primary focus of a business should be providing something of value to those who need it. And making sure they benefit from it. And the profit that comes from that is just a side benefit. Making money should never be the greatest goal.

The real benefit is the sense of accomplishment in creating something of great value that people will be able to use and rave about. As Seth Godin says, it should be ‘a gift’.

Sure you may earn something from the products or services you offer. But what your customers get from your products or services should be much more than they could ever repay you in monetary terms. That’s why it’s a gift. Successful artists and musicians understand this well…

    Awesome video, Kim. :)
Will share it on my blog later on in the afternoon.I really enjoyed the tips. Especially how you apply the “Power of 1″ to traffic generation.Sometimes I look at products like Traffic Dashboard, and I get analysis paralysis for several moments. There are so many optional ways to get traffic.Where should I start? How long should I work on it before I go try another traffic method? When do I end? Yada yada yada…. :P Total focus on one traffic generation method a month sounds like a great rule of thumb. :) Also, I can attest to focusing on one business model as being the key to building a six figure business. Focusing intently on one business model has enabled me to build new six figure businesses from scratch in less than 60 days. But it’s true. You really need to focus. And you really need to make it happen. Just checking email the whole day doesn’t cut it. A trap I sometimes still fall into. :) Cheers,Allen WalkerThe Mysterious Marketer

You’re right we shouldn’t over complicating what we need to
do. To become really successful online we need targeted traffic, a
way to build a list, stuff to sell and an effective selling
process. That’s it. The rest is just refinement.

    - An ugly opt-in is better then no opt-in form.
    - An ebook released with grammatical errors is better than the
one that’s going to take another 6 months perfecting. Sell it now
    and continue working on it.

We shouldn’t over complicate the process.

Brilliant and heart-felt video! These principals are huge.  Leaving a legacy … serving people… not doing what you love (running after the dollar)… going in too many directions… not focusing on product creation/Business/EMPIRE! Loved the “Go OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE!”  Essential.  Each level requires this ability.  I’m with Ivette.  Speed of implementation has been challenging focuses on clients and their goals. In February, I made changes to transform this element in my business and it’s starting to fly! The “get ready” to research is a huge time-wasting pit along with unfocused and unmanaged social media time! Knock those two out and move and groove!

Wow, Kim! You described almost every online marketer’s issues so eloquently in such a short video…great stuff. I myself have been sucked in by the “shiny object syndrome” or the “I have to get everything perfect” syndrome in the past and it’s simply a slow road to failure if you can’t recognize it and implement change immediately. Simplicity and fundamentals are what we need to concentrate on and take MASSIVE ACTION with one strategy as you described. I came to this conclusion recently and finally see a point where I can wake up knowing I’ve already made money. Thanks again!

To me it’s also kind of your trump card against other marketers ;)

Principle 3 – “Pretending to Work” … right on the mark for me.  “Implementation” is another great point you bring up.  I heard it over and over again, “knowledge isn’t power, it’s the implementation of knowledge.”  Take action and do actual work.  Thanks Kim!  Great post!

    Kim,
I have been in a non internet business all of my long career. When I decided to start an internet business, I literally “suffered” through, and to some extent still am suffering through, the many influences one goes through to establish an internet business. The misconception of course, is that if you get online today you will make a fortune tomorrow… it doesn’t happen like that. One soon learns that the “real” internet business is not much different from other business models. One experiences the same personal and business issues as in any business. So, your refreshing advice and honesty made me understand what I need to do to…I appreciate your opinion and your honesty and I will listen to your advice….keep up the good work!

Really cool stuff Kim and I honestly couldn’t agree any more with you.

I have been talking to several 6-figure IMers lately (including one top guru from the UK) and they all agree that creating products and building a business has absolutely NOTHING to do with building a niche site or trying to become rich with Affiliate Marketing.

The other bit that resonated a lot with me, is when you have the false feeling that you are working when you’re actually not.

This happens all the time to me, that I think I’m “networking” on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ when I’m actually just wasting my time but the good thing is that I finally became aware of that and I’m taking the actions to fix this.

For the rest of the points, like hanging out on forums, buying new stuff, etc., it’s all a huge time sucking machine to me and all I can say is that I never though this could actually happen to the people that are on the other side already. (the ones who have built products and have finally seen the great results from doing so)

Anyway, it’s great that you decided to do this video, hopefully more people will become aware of it and decide to step their game up a notch at least.

The great thing about creating your products is that they create such a HUGE amount of leverage in your business. They allow you to very quickly add thousands of new subscribers to your list and you can also build an affiliate program as well – which is by FAR one of THE best traffic sources online. Having other people drive traffic FOR you and only paying when they make sales. Definitely a win-win :)

    Hi Kim,

Awesome video! I agree with you about doing what you love. Most of the people I know struggle with this concept; however, it’s relatively easy once you have identified a need in the marketplace.

    Good point!

Doing what you love is soooo important. But you also have to make sure it

I would be interested to know what was your passion when you first entered the world of internet marketing and how did you eventually transfer to online marketing
